My Rating: 4.5/10
Genre: Comedy
Director: Jay Roach
"Tim (RUDD) is a rising executive who suceeds in finding the perfect guest, IRS employee Barry (CARELL), for his boss' annual 'dinner for idiots' which offers certain advantages to the executive who shows up with the biggest buffoon"
This is a film with extremely mixed reviews. You seem to either love it or hate it. I can understand where the negative reviewers are coming from. The script is rather weak and seems to be clinging to the idea that nobody will realise it's bad because there is an A-List cast. Unfortunately the script cannot be saved, but if you can survive the first half , "Schmucks" seems to turn itself around. Aside from the fact that this film concreted my thoughs that Paul Rudd will (unfortunately) never be able to carry a movie by himself, "Dinner for Schmucks" did deliver the promised antics of Steve Carell, Jemaine Clement and Zach Galifianakis. This is not, by any means, a film you would see if you wanted something intellectual however; if you want a bit of an "easy watching" giggle, I recommend this - otherwise it is just disappointing. I'm giving Dinner for Schmucks 4.5/10 stars.
