Twilight & New Moon

Lets get 2 of these out of the way..

Twilight (2008)
Rating: 5/10
Director: Catherine Hardwicke

"When Isabella Swan (STEWART) moves to Forks, Washington to live with her father Charlie (BURKE), she didn't expect her life to change. But when the suave and mysterious vampire Edward Cullen (PATTINSON catches her eye, things will never be the same.. "

I'll start off by admitedly saying that I did enjoy this film when I first saw it (Don't hold it against me, I was an impressionable 15 year old at the time), but now i see that its so bad that its almost good. Usually when a book is 'brought to the screen' everyone is disappointed, this was not the case as Stephenie Meyer is talentless and unoriginal. The allure of the film seems to be the idea of finding your perfect soulmate which, in this case, is Robert Pattinson. The script writing is bad which leads to a lot awkward moments and humour where it shouldn't be. The effects were ok but looked very cheap. Fight scenes were very badly choreographed. On the upside, the cast consisting mostly of 'fresh faces' were not half bad, the soundtrack was great and the chemistry between R-Patz and K-Stew was amazing and probably the reason so many people sat through this. Again this is not an intellectual film but an entertaining film. I give it 6/10.

New Moon (2009)
Rating: 3.5/10
Director: Chris Weitz

"After Bella (STEWART) has recovered from the vampire attack that nearly claime her life, she looks to celebrate her 18th birthday with her boyfriend Edward (PATTINSON) and his family. Everything ultimately turns to shit when she clumsily cuts herself resulting in a bunch of blood thirsty family members. As a result, the Cullens decide to leave in order to protect Bella who, initially heart broken, finds comfort in friend Jacob Black (LAUTNER) who just happens to be a werewolf."

Well, this was bad. I'm not sure whether it was the director or my growing understanding of what actually makes a film good that made this film SO much worse than the first. It was full of melodramatic dialogue and, for some strange reason, the actors decided they could no longer actually act! The film made no sense, the flow was all off and the soundtrack sucked. Towards the end the editing got rather sloppy with transitions and cuts being all off. There were however some redeeming qualities; There was actual EFFORT put into it, theres eye-candy and there is time for emotions to sink in. It is in no way deserving of all the awards it has recieved but it is not the worse movie i have seen. 3.5, just.
